D'Backs edge Tigers

Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Eric Byrnes went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, two RBI and two runs scored as the Arizona Diamondbacks edged the Detroit Tigers, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game interleague set at Chase Field.

Chris Young drove in a run while Justin Upton scored once for the Diamondbacks, who have won four straight. Dan Haren (5-2) got the win as he gave up three runs on six hits in seven innings of work.

"I dug a little hole but I think I did a pretty good job of keeping us there," said Haren. "If I give up then we are in trouble but I was able to keep us there and then we were able to chip away."

Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run home run while Magglio Ordonez went 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Tigers, who have dropped five straight. Zach Miner (1-3) took the loss while Jeremy Bonderman gave up two runs on three hits with four walks and five strikeouts in six-plus innings of work.

"I threw the ball really well but in the sixth inning I got a little tired, walked a couple of guys but other than that I thought I threw the ball well," said Bonderman. "Haren threw the ball well. It was a good matchup. Those games are fun to be in but I am not upset with the way I pitched."

Trailing by two runs to start the seventh, Arizona grabbed the lead in the bottom of the inning.

After Miner entered the game with runners on first and second and no outs, Byrnes punched a single to center to plate Upton. Augie Ojeda tried to bunt the runners over, but Chris Snyder was forced out at third. Miguel Montero then struck out, but Young singled to right to score Byrnes and tie the game.

Bobby Seay then took the mound and got Stephen Drew to hit a grounder to third, but Carlos Guillen's throw to first bounced in the dirt and Ojeda scored to give the Diamondbacks a 4-3 lead.

Juan Cruz retired the Tigers in order in the eighth while Tony Pena worked a perfect ninth to pick up his first save of the season.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the third on a sacrifice fly from Curtis Granderson that plated Edgar Renteria.

Detroit increased its lead in the fourth as Ordonez hit a one-out single and Cabrera followed with a blast over the left field wall for a 3-0 lead.

The Diamondbacks got on the board in the fifth as Byrnes hit a two-out, solo home run to make it a 3-1 contest. Game Notes

The Diamondbacks are 12-7 all time against Detroit, including a 7-3 mark at Chase Field...Attendance was 33,531...Arizona is 18-7 at home this season while Detroit is 8-14 on the road.
