Braves demote P James

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Braves optioned struggling starting pitcher Chuck James to Triple-A Richmond on Friday.

James was optioned to Richmond for the third time this season, one night after allowing five runs on six hits and five walks in just four innings in a 5-0 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. He surrendered three home runs in the outing and failed to strike out a batter.

James' ERA ballooned to 8.22 after the loss, bringing his record to 2-3 on the season through 23 innings. He has allowed seven home runs with 16 walks and 17 strikeouts.

In a corresponding roster move, pitcher Phil Stockman was recalled from Triple-A Richmond.
