St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - Angels infielder Erick Aybar had to leave Friday night's contest with the Tampa Bay Rays after taking a James Shields pitch off his glove hand.
X-rays of the hand and wrist were negative and he is listed day-to-day with a contusion to his left pinkie finger. He went hitless in one at-bat before leaving.
Aybar led off the fourth offering bunt and took a Shields cutter off his left hand while it gripped the bat. He was awarded first base but had to leave the game and was replaced by pinch runner Robb Quinlan. Quinlan stayed in the game to play third base and Brandon Wood moved over to shortstop.
On the season, Aybar is batting .297 with 13 runs batted in, 18 runs scored and five stolen bases in 32 games.
