Everything NY Sports Has To Offer

NY sports in the middle of summer is the Yankees and the Mets; Two of the largest payrolls on major league baseball. The Yankees are in first place in the American League East. They are a half game ahead of the Boston Redsox. The Mets are in third place and trail the Philadelphia franchise by nine and one half games.

The Yankees are 51-34 after a Wednesday night loss to the Cleveland Indians. Derek Jeter was one for three at the plate and is three hits away from the 3000 mark.Check out this link here. Jeter would be the first Yankee to reach 3000 hits and the 28th player in major league history. The Yankees open a four game home-stand tonight at Yankee Stadium against the Tampa Bay Rays. Bartolo Colon (6-3, 2.88 era) will be opposed by Jeff Niemann (3-4, 5.05 era).
Curtis Granderson has 25 HRs for the first place Yankees, and teammate Mark Teixeira also has 25 home runs to accompany his team leading 65 runs batted in. The Yankees closer, Mariano Rivera, is available on a day-to-day basis. He has been having arm problems. The series should be electric as Derek Jeter has this 4 game series to reach 3000 hits at home (Yankee Stadium). The Yankees go on an extended road-trip following the All-star break.

The NY Mets are 45-42 and seek to sweep a four game series from the LA Dodgers tonight at Chavez Ravine.
Dillon Gee (8-2, 3.47 era) will oppose Clayton Kershaw (8-4, 3.23 era). The Dodger’s Kershaw is tied for the major league lead in strikeouts. Francisco Rodriguez recorded his 22nd save of the season in last nights 5-3 win over the Dodgers. It is rumored K-Rod is on the trading block in order to make cash available to re-sign Jose Reyes. The Mets will be without Reyes tonight as they seek to sweep the Dodgers. Reyes remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.
